The CDLI assists faculty with the development of new online courses, the redesign of existing online courses, or with updates to existing online courses. Faculty may schedule an initial meeting with the instructional designer to map out the course and create a development timeline. Once the course is complete, the instructional designer can review the course material using the OSCQR course rubric.
New Online Course Development Process
Online Course Approvals
Approval of online courses and programs follows the processes set forth by the University Curriculum Committee. Please refer to the University Curriculum Committee process for requesting approval of an online course.
CDLI instructional designers can help you with designing your course including:
- Creating a course map
- Designing assessments and grading rubrics
- Creating alignment for learning activities, instructional materials, and assessments
- Ensuring your content adheres to federal digital accessibility standards
- Applying Angelo State’s online course standards rubric to your new course
- Using instructional strategies to boost student engagement
- Selecting appropriate technology for your activities and assessments
- Working in Blackboard
Existing Course Process
For repeating courses (that are not new and have been offered before), faculty have the ability to copy their previous course into the upcoming course using guided directions. Faculty can also request a course copy through the CDLI through the Course Copy Request Form.
All online courses and programs are expected to have the following items:
- Clear and Comprehensive Information: Students must receive clear, complete, and timely information regarding the curriculum, course and degree program requirements, faculty/student interaction, technological competence and skills, technical equipment requirements, academic support services, financial aid resources, and costs and payment policies.
- Access to Learning Resources: Students engaged in distance learning should have adequate access to learning resources, including libraries, information resources, and equipment appropriate for their academic courses or programs.
- Coherent and Complete Programs: Degree or certificate courses or programs offered electronically must be coherent and complete.
- Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI): Courses or programs should facilitate regular and substantive interaction among parties. Consistent Academic Standards: Academic standards and student learning outcomes for distance education courses or programs must be equivalent to those for courses or programs delivered through other means at the institution.
