Each Spring, the entire Climbing Gym is stripped of routes, washed, and set with completely fresh routes. The climbing competition offers the perfect opportunity for participants to measure their skill level in a friendly and exciting format. Whether you are a Chris Sharma (climbing rock star), or you have just been climbing once, the climbing competition is for you.
The competition is open to everyone. The format is a mixed format of bouldering problems and top rope routes. Each route/problem will have a point value labeled near the start. Competitors will receive points by “on sighting”, or climbing without falling. The harder the climb, the more points a competitor will receive.
Each competitor must turn in a scorecard with a minimum of five climbs. Two climbs must be top rope, two must be bouldering problems, and the last is the climber’s decision.
There are six categories of climbers broken down in the table below. While it is a competition, we highly encourage new and advanced climbers alike to join as it is a really fun event.

The finals bracket will consist of one final climb for the top three scoring men and women. He or she will get one attempt to climb the men’s/women’s final as high as they can without falling. Final placement in the advanced categories is based upon the highest controlled hold (i.e. whomever successfully climbs the highest will win first place).
In preparation for the Climbing Competition, the Climbing Gym will begin to have limited availability the week before the competition. Over the course of the week, the Outdoor Adventures team will be cleaning the entire Climbing Gym and setting all new routes. Please check the event for specific dates.
