How to Use the Library

To get set up to use the library, you’ll need:

• An activated ASU OneCard, Faculty/Staff ID or Dual Credit Student ID (so you can check out materials)
• An activated Technology Access Account (so you can access the library’s online resources).

Here’s how:

GET AN ACTIVATED ASU ONECARD OR FACULTY/STAFF ID

Obtain a OneCard or Dual Credit ID by contacting the OneCard Office. (If you are waiting for your card to arrive, you can get a temporary ID through the OneCard office.) Make sure you activate your OneCard.

ACTIVATE YOUR TECHNOLOGY ACCESS ACCOUNT

Many people activate their account at orientation. You need it for most online services at ASU — and at the library, it includes the online databases and periodicals. To activate it:

1. Register and get your CID (Campus Identification Number).
2. Email the Technology Service Center at ITSupport@angelo.edu to obtain a Technology Access Account.
3. See the Technology Access Account page for more information about the Technology Access Account.

Access Your Library Account and Renew Eligible Items

To see when your items are due and to renew, go to RamCat and enter your:

• Last Name
• Library PIN (the default is ABCD4321)
• ASU Campus ID or ASU Library Barcode (on the back of the blue ASU library affiliate card)

Your Up & Coming Scholar card (available from the OneCard Office) will enable you to check out items.

Alumni Association Members

Obtain an ASU Alumni ID card from the OneCard Office. If your name isn’t on our list of Alumni Association members, we can call the Alumni Office during normal weekday business hours. The ASU Alumni ID card will enable you to check out items from our collection.

President’s Circle

Members of the President’s Circle can bring their driver’s license or photo ID to the library. We’ll check the member list we receive from the Development Office and make you an affiliate card, which will enable you to check out items.

Friends of the Library and West Texas Collection

After joining Friends of the Library and WTC, bring your driver’s license or photo ID to the library where you will sign an agreement form. We’ll check the member list and make you an affiliate card, which will enable you to borrow items.

TexShare Card Holders

Members of the public have several options for checking out items from the library, which happens by obtaining an affiliate card.

The TexShare Program is one of the most popular methods and is the only no-cost method. First, you need to obtain a TexShare card from your home public or academic library.

Bring your TexShare card and library card from the issuing Library, along with your driver’s license or picture ID, then we will create an affiliate borrowing card.

ASU Retirees

Your retiree card, which you can obtain from the OneCard Office, is your library card. It will enable you to check out items from the library.

Family Members of ASU Faculty and Staff

As a courtesy to ASU faculty and staff, borrowing privileges are extended to their spouses. The sponsoring faculty/staff are responsible for their dependents’ checkouts.

To be able to check out items, the spouse will need to come to the Library with the sponsoring faculty/staff member to obtain a library affiliate borrowing card. The spouse will need a picture ID and the ASU faculty/staff member will need their ASU ID card.

ASU students must present an activated ASU OneCard and faculty and staff must present an ASU ID card to check out materials.

Need resources not available through the ASU Library’s online holdings?

ASU students and faculty who live in any location outside of the counties below are able to request eligible Library resources through document delivery.

Students and faculty living in the local counties below must come to the ASU Library to locate and check out material owned by the Library and to pick up books and media obtained through Interlibrary Loan.

Dual Credit

ASU Dual Credit students who do not live in Tom Green County are also able to have eligible Library resources delivered through document delivery.

Students living in Tom Green County must come to the ASU Library with their Dual Credit ID Card (available from the OneCard office) to locate and check out Library material and books and media obtained through interlibrary loans.

Document delivery gives you access to items owned by the Library that do not come in electronic format. Articles from circulating print resources owned by the Library will be scanned and emailed to non-local faculty’s Angelo State account, subject to copyright restrictions.

Students should request items using their Angelo State email account, as this is the official means of communication between the institution and the student. Emailed articles will be sent to students’ Angelo State email accounts.

Circulating items from the Library’s print and media collection are available to be checked out (priority will be given to students’ academic studies). Requested books and media will be sent from ASU via insured mail, with a postage-paid insured return envelope. Items must be received in the Library by the due date, in order to avoid overdue fines. (Students may want to consider their local libraries as a resource as well, in order to speed access and avoid overdue fines.)

A Faculty Checkout Request Form must be submitted when a faculty member has someone else check out materials on their behalf. It must be presented in person by the designee checking out materials with both the designee’s and the faculty member’s ASU OneCard.

A Closed Stacks and Remote Circulation Request Form must be submitted to retrieve items from the Closed Stacks area or Remote Circulating area. Please use a separate form for each item requested, or attach printouts from RamCat.
