Class of 2025 Top Graduates

Alejandro Rodarte-Martinez, a biology major from San Angelo, has been selected to receive Angelo State University’s 2025 Presidential Award as the top graduate in his class, while five other ASU graduating seniors have been selected for 2025 Distinguished Student Awards from their respective academic colleges.

Project Defender: Empowering Students and Protecting Our Communities

The Department of Computer Science at Angelo State University proudly highlights the success of Project Defender, a unique initiative directed by Dr. Erdogan Doğdu, Professor and Chair of the Department with the support of ASU Regional Security Operations Center. Modeled after Project Xander, originally launched by MITRE Corporation and UTSA, Project Defender has served the dual purpose of advancing workforce development and strengthening cybersecurity for nonprofit organizations across West Texas.

Computer Science Student Earns Prestigious NSA Internship

Hailey Lowden of San Angelo, a senior computer science major at Angelo State University, has been selected to participate in the National Security Agency’s (NSA) 2025 Future Computing Summer Internship Program at the NSA Laboratory for Physical Sciences in Catonsville, Maryland.

ASU Wins U.S. Department of Defense Grant for Cybersecurity Project

Angelo State University has received a $299,999 grant subaward from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) through Texas Tech University for a joint project to develop a cybersecurity research and workforce development program to tackle defense-relevant challenges in the region.

ASU Earns National Cybersecurity Academic Excellence Designation

Angelo State University has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and will retain the designation at least through the 2029 academic year.

Regional Security Operations Center Wins Statewide Collaboration Award

Angelo State University’s pilot Regional Security Operations Center (RSOC) has earned a 2024 Project Excellence Award from the Texas Association of State Systems for Computing and Communications (TASSCC) and was presented the award at the recent TASSCC Annual Conference in Houston.
