Business Reply Mail

Business Reply Mail (BRM) enables a department to provide its correspondents with return reply envelopes or cards that the correspondent can return without paying postage. The BRM permit holder (ASU Mail Services) is then assessed the regular First Class rate, plus a BRM handling fee on each piece that is returned.

BRM envelopes are primarily used at ASU for return of information requested or questionnaires. The advantage of BRM is that the department pays postage and fees only on the replies that are returned. Departments wishing to use BRM must have approval from the Communications and Marketing Office prior to printing of the envelopes or cards.

Contact ASU Mail Services for more information on Business Reply Mail. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) charges ASU a permit fee of $310 and an accounting fee of $860 annually for the use of BRM. The cost increases every year. To help ASU achieve even more savings, consider having a unique email address for replies, rather than using BRM. Departments might consider having a unique email address for responses, which will save ASU and your department on costs.

Schedule

Currently, USPS collects all outgoing mail once daily at 3:15 p.m. All outgoing USPS mail brought to Mail Services by 2:30 p.m. will be processed the same day. However, unusual peak periods, equipment down time, and situations beyond our control could cause your mail processing to be delayed, though this is not a common occurrence.
