Protection of Animals in Research
In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act, Angelo State University has established policies and procedures for the ethical and responsible use of animals in research. ASU’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is responsible for reviewing research protocols involving animals covered under federal policy.
All faculty, staff, and students engaged in teaching and/or research involving vertebrate animals must obtain approval to use the animals in accordance with ASU’s policy, OP 56.06. The required protocol forms may be accessed from the links in the right sidebar of this page.
Additionally, those individuals working with species covered under this policy must complete the appropriate training for handling the animals. A variety of training resources are available, including the CITI Course on Lab Animal Research. For more information on accessing this online course, please contact osp@angelo.edu.
