Aftermaths Student Art Contest
Open to all current Angelo State students, the contest encourages entrants to reflect on the meaning of war and peace through the visual arts. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three places.
Contest Theme: The history and legacy of World War II, either broadly considered or dealing with a specific element of the war.
Eligible Media: Students can enter collages, photos and digital media, as well as prints, paintings and drawings in a variety of styles (pastel, acrylic, watercolor, graphite, chalk, etc.).
Prizes:
First Place: $250
Second Place: $150
Honorable Mention: $100
Submission Deadline: Friday, Sept. 19, at 11:59 p.m.
Additional Contest Information
There are no entry fees.
Only one submission per student is allowed.
Submissions must directly engage the theme to be eligible for the cash prizes.
Submissions must also include a 250-500-word statement explaining how the artwork relates to the Aftermaths theme.
Submissions that include inappropriate language, symbols or images will be disqualified.
The artwork must be an original piece created by the student who submits it.
Students are responsible for photographing their artwork for the contest.
On the submission form, students will be asked to identify the medium, size and title of their piece and to confirm that they have read and understood the contest guidelines.
Complete and submit the electronic form and submit a photograph of your artwork and your supporting statement.
Photographs should be formatted as JPEGs and should not include any text.
Photo Size Requirements: 2-10 MB
Supporting statements should be submitted in PDF format.
Initial call will go out toward the end of the spring semester (April/May).
Second call will go out at the beginning of the fall 2025 semester.
Final deadline for submissions: Friday, Sept. 19
Winners will be announced during the social hour preceding the Keynote Lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 14. All entries will be displayed on-screen during the social hour.
Cash prizes will be awarded after the fact, when funds are encumbered and students have completed a 1099 Form.
A pre-jury composed of visual arts and history faculty will create a preliminary assessment that considers aesthetic appeal, technical skill and overall craftsmanship – and also how well each piece engages the contest theme.
