ASU Distinguished Scholarships

Your Future, Our Commitment.

ASU Distinguished Scholarships are merit scholarships awarded based on your ACT/SAT scores, class rank, and/or high school GPA.

ACT – we review the composite score.
SAT – we review the math and evidence-based reading/writing scores.
High school GPAs are calculated on a 4.0 scale.

We also strongly encourage you to complete the FAFSA to see if you qualify for additional funds.

Students in the ASU Honors Program qualify for an additional $3,000 per year.

Qualifications

To guarantee Distinguished Scholarship awards, students must be accepted for admission to ASU by April 1 for fall admission or Oct. 15 for spring admission. Students admitted after those dates will be reviewed for a scholarship to the extent funds are available.
You must submit your test scores and/or high school transcript to Angelo State.
You must have fewer than 12 transfer credit hours (excluding dual credit). If you have 12 or more transfer hours, you will be automatically considered for an ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship.

Students Admitted for Summer or Fall Semester

Reviewing – The ASU Distinguished Scholarship has a priority date of April 1. Students admitted to ASU by that date will automatically be reviewed for a scholarship. Students admitted to ASU after April 1 will be reviewed to the extent funds are available.
Retesting – ACT/SAT tests taken and scores received after the April 1 priority date will be reviewed to the extent funds are available.

Students Admitted for Spring Semester

Reviewing – The ASU Distinguished Scholarship has a priority date of Oct. 15. Students admitted to ASU by that date will automatically be reviewed for a scholarship. Students admitted to ASU after Oct. 15 will be reviewed to the extent funds are available.
Retesting – ACT/SAT tests taken and scores received after the Oct. 15 priority date will be reviewed to the extent funds are available.

Upon being admitted to ASU, your high school transcripts and/or ACT/SAT scores will be evaluated automatically to determine your ASU Distinguished Scholarship eligibility. No additional application is necessary.

If you completed the FAFSA, it will be reviewed for financial need.

If you are awarded an ASU Distinguished Scholarship, you will be notified via email within two weeks after being admitted to ASU.

We encourage you to retake the ACT or SAT as often as allowed while in high school to try to improve your score. International freshmen must have a qualifying test score to earn a Distinguished Scholarship. You can even take the ACT on our campus!

Tests taken and scores received after the priority dates for being admitted to ASU (April 1 for fall admission or Oct. 15 for spring admission) will be reviewed to the extent funds are available.

If you withdraw or drop below 12 credit hours on or before the university’s census date (12th class day of a regular semester), your scholarship disbursement will be canceled. This may create a balance due to the university.

If you withdraw, you may be required to reapply to the university. If you have to reapply, you are no longer eligible for your ASU Distinguished Scholarship.

If you “sit out” for a long semester (fall or spring), you may be required to reapply to the university. If you have to reapply, you are no longer eligible for your ASU Distinguished Scholarship.

Renewal Requirements

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your progress at the end of each spring semester to determine if you remain eligible for your ASU Distinguished Scholarship.

You must meet all the following standards, and you must remain in good standing (academic and disciplinary) with the university.

Institutional (ASU) Grade Point Average (GPA)
- At least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the end of the first academic year
  At least a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the end of each subsequent academic year
Successful Completion of ASU Credit Hours
- Complete at least 24 new credit hours each academic year (fall/spring/summer)
  The following are considered credit hours attempted, but not successfully completed or earned toward satisfying your scholarship requirements:
  - Grades of F or NC for undergraduates
  - Course withdrawals
  - Course incomplete
  - Developmental courses
  - Repeated courses
  - Dual credit
  - Transfer courses
Maximum Time Frame
- The duration of your ASU Distinguished Scholarship is not to exceed eight consecutive semesters (four years) or a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Students who do not meet the renewal requirements by the end of the spring semester may reinstate their ASU Distinguished Scholarship by taking classes during the successive summer terms at Angelo State. Students who do not meet the renewal requirements by the end of the academic year (fall/spring/summer) will lose eligibility for their ASU Distinguished Scholarship.

Summer classes must be taken at ASU — courses cannot be transferred from another school.
Students taking summer classes at ASU must correct all deficiencies in order to reinstate scholarship eligibility for the next academic year.
Students have until the end of the summer term to reinstate eligibility before the fall semester begins. Students who do not meet the renewal requirements are no longer eligible for their ASU Distinguished Scholarship.
Students who withdraw may be required to reapply to the university. Students who have to reapply are no longer eligible for their ASU Distinguished Scholarship.
