Student Federal Direct Loan Application Process

Angelo State University participates in the Federal Direct Lending program. As a first time Federal Direct Loan borrower there are additional steps that must be completed.

  1. Student receives award notice from Angelo State University via their ASU email and their FAFSA email.
  2. Student accepts the awards on the RamPort Financial Aid & Scholarships page.
  3. To complete the Entrance Counseling and MPN you will click on the appropriate tab below.
  4. Student allow 24-48 hours for Entrance Counseling and MPN confirmation to be uploaded by the school.

If there are any questions about the completion of your Entrance Counseling and/or MPN process, or you have an issue with your FSA ID and password, please call the Department of Education’s Customer Service at 800-557-7394.

Entrance Counseling

Here are steps to complete an Entrance Counseling for Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan:

  1. Student goes to https://studentaid.gov
  2. Click on Log In and log on using your FSA ID and password.
  3. Click on Complete Aid Process.
  4. Click on first loan under 05 Complete Entrance Counseling.
  5. Click Start under Complete Entrance Counseling.
  6. Add Angelo State University in the Add School to Notify section and indicate that you are completing counseling as an undergraduate student.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. From this point you will read all the information and questions that appear.
  9. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation. The Department of Education will send your school a confirmation within 24-48 hours.

Master Promissory Note

Here are steps to complete a Master Promissory Note:

  1. Go to https://studentaid.gov.
  2. Click on the Complete Aid Process link.
  3. Click on the Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan MPN link.
  4. Click on the Start button.
  5. Student signs in using their FSA ID and password.
  6. From this point you will read all the information and answer the questions that appear. At the end there will be a submit button.
  7. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation. The Department of Education will send your school a confirmation within 24-48 hours.
