ASU Wins $2.89 Million Grant to Support Graduate Students

Angelo State University’s College of Graduate Studies and Research has been awarded a $2.89 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand and enhance the college’s resources for student success, with a focus on unlocking opportunities for low-income and underserved student populations.
The five-year program, titled “GradQuest: Navigating Your Graduate Program,” will provide a comprehensive suite of support services that will directly benefit all ASU graduate students, thus ensuring that more students from low-income and underserved populations have the support to succeed in their academic and career endeavors.
GradQuest will be built upon a multifaceted approach, including:
- A university-wide graduate student orientation
- Additional scholarship opportunities
- Specific support for health professions students
- Faculty professional development and instructional design support
- Wraparound support services, including academic and program support, professional and career development, financial literacy programs, networking opportunities, and holistic health and wellbeing initiatives
“By reinforcing the foundation of all our graduate programs, we can provide all ASU graduate students with enhanced tools to navigate graduate school and beyond,” Heep said. “GradQuest directly aligns with the university’s mission to provide highly competitive graduates, while also meeting the growing educational, economic and workforce needs of the region and the state.”
Dr. David Bixler, dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, oversees all graduate programs under the GradQuest program; and Dr. Kinsey Hansen, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, serves as co-director of GradQuest.
