Course Descriptions
The ASU President’s Academy for Life-Long Leaders is built around eight leader competencies we feel are essential to bringing our vision to life. The eight compass competencies include values, character, ethics, self-development, management, decision making, communication and organizational acumen.
What’s the difference between leadership and being a leader? In this session, we will identify the core differences along with discussing several key models of leadership.
In this session, participants will:
Learn about character theory and virtues.
Discuss their VIA Inventory of Character Strengths results.
Engage in discussion and scenario-based learning activities while discussing the role of Character in Leadership.
Reflect on their gratitude.
Select one VIA character strength they want to improve over the next two weeks until our next meeting.
This session focuses on the role communication plays when working with others. We will discuss the different levels of communication, and we will identify key assumptions leaders make when communicating.
Do you always have to get along with others? Building on our lessons learned from previous sessions, participants will discuss viewpoints and collaborate on identifying how to best transition conflict into collaboration.
This session aims to identify how influence impacts the relationships we have at work. We will discuss different levels of influence and how we can use our influence to further the values at ASU.
