Area Manager
Roberta Moglia – Contest Manager
Roberta Moglia taught, directed, and competed in all classifications (A-6A) of Texas high schools for 20 years. While teaching and directing, she advanced to all levels of competition and placed 3rd in 2009 at the State Meet with Agnes of God . Her love for the One Act Play contest began as a freshman in high school because this was the only show each year in her 3A town. Currently, she is the Auditorium/Facility Manager for San Antonio College which still allows her to assist technically with various productions, event manage, and ultimately, be surrounded by the performing arts every day. As a Certified Contest Manager, Roberta strives to ensure that each contest maintains an enjoyable and calm atmosphere while each company is allowed to perform at their highest level.
Allen Otto has been involved with UIL One-Act Play since 2001, working in competitions from zone to state. He holds a B.A. from Trinity University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston School of Law. He took his love of storytelling into his career, and as a chief trial attorney in Harris County, has gotten to advocate for crime victims in more than 50 jury trials.
Allen remains active in the Houston theater community, creating clinics and experiences for high schools and middle schools across the state to promote the joy of theatre in youth. In addition, he travels across the U.S. and Canada to assist choral groups in developing organic performance through song. Allen has also worked with the Houston ISD to help build and grow participation in UIL elementary, middle and high school tournaments. In addition to contest managing, he has served as a judge for various UIL events at the district, region and state levels.
In accordance with UIL regulations, only students listed in the Official Eligibility Notice may be in the stage and dressing areas. Only eligible students may participate as members of the contest company.
ASU provides the basic unit set.
Dressing rooms will be available for students.
Students from ASU’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts will act as hosts for the One-Act Play teams. A university host will be waiting at the loading door of the auditorium when you arrive to unload – and will be able to answer questions, direct unloading of scenery and props, and assist in any other way needed.
