The music program at Angelo State University welcomes ensemble participation from majors and non-majors. If you love music, we have a place for you in our music program.
Performers in our concert ensembles represent virtually every major on campus and come from schools of every size and region of the state. Scholarships are available for those participating in the band, choir or orchestra. We look forward to having you share your talents with the campus, community and audiences around the state. Be sure to explore our various ensembles, too.
Auditions
All students interested in pursuing a degree in music or a minor in music must audition and be accepted into the music program. To schedule an audition, complete and submit the Prospective Student Form and follow the instructions to request an audition date. We’ll be in touch with more details.
View the specific audition requirements for your instrument or voice and contact the appropriate studio professor assistance.
Students currently attending ASU who wish to pursue a degree in music should begin the process by contacting the appropriate studio instructor.
The Day Of
Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled audition. Practice rooms are available for warming up. The audition process takes about an hour. Before and after the audition, there will be an opportunity to meet with current students and faculty. After the audition, students will take the Music Theory diagnostic exam after which they may take a guided tour of our facilities.
Accompanists
You only need to provide a copy of your music if you need an accompanist. If so, you can either mail it to the Visual and Performing Arts Department, ASU Station #10906, San Angelo, TX 76909-0906, or fax it to 325-942-2152.
We will have an accompanist available, or you may bring your own.
Students who want to transfer to Angelo State must complete the regular admission process to the university, as well as audition for acceptance into the music program. The audition process is the same as for other students, though you will also be required to take placement examinations in music theory and aural skills. Transcripts of previous work will be required before full acceptance and placement are determined.
Please contact the applied professor for your instrument if you have questions.
