Bacterial Meningitis Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to get a bacterial meningitis vaccination?

Texas Senate Bill 1107 (SB1107) requires all new enrolling undergraduate and graduate students and students returning after a lapse of enrollment to show evidence of receiving a bacterial meningitis vaccination or booster dose.

Students will not be allowed to register for classes until you provide the appropriate evidence of vaccination or evidence to decline the vaccination.

When do I have to receive the vaccination?

All students must receive the bacterial meningitis vaccination at least 10 days prior to the start of the semester. Those who had vaccinations more than five years ago are required to receive a booster.

What if I do not want to get the vaccination?

Exceptions must be documented on a Conscientious Exemption Form from the Texas Department of Health Services. The exemption process can be rather lengthy, so please get started early if you plan to go this route.

Where do I send my proof of vaccination?
