What Can You Do With a Cybersecurity Degree?
With a cybersecurity undergraduate degree, you can start your career as soon as you graduate. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that career opportunities for information security analysts and other cybersecurity professionals are expected to increase by about 35% over the next decade, with average salaries of over $100,000.
Plus, industry reports indicate there are about three million cybersecurity positions currently open across the U.S.
We have partnered with the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) to operate the first Regional Security Operations Center (RSOC) in the state. Paid internships are available to work with RSOC staff providing cybersecurity support to local government agencies. Interns get front-line experience battling cyberthreats and improving the safety of the community.
Additional Opportunities
You could intern in the Texas DIR Data Center on campus and/or our IT Department, and off-campus internships are also available. You can also work part time in our computer labs or IT Department, and you can provide cybersecurity guidance and support to students of all ages and the public through programs in our Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Cyber Intelligence, Innovation and Security Studies.
Certificate Program
You can earn a certificate in Cybersecurity Technologies without taking extra classes. Just complete a specific four-course block within your degree plan. This additional credential can give you an edge when applying for a job or for graduate school.
