Nestled between the Hardeman Building and the Houston Harte University Center, the Home of the Champions monument marks the site of the university’s first gymnasium, nicknamed the “Cow Palace,” and includes an image of the building.

The Cow Palace was the home court for the university’s basketball teams, including the Rams team that won the 1957 NJCAA Basketball National Championship - the first national title in school history.

The monument is also adorned with the iconic photo of former Rams Head Coach Phil George being lifted on his players’ shoulders as they celebrate winning the national championship.
