Carl McCoy was born in Amarillo, Texas and grew up in the northern panhandle of Texas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1989 to 1996, and then attended college. After college, he joined the Oklahoma National Guard, later moving into full time law enforcement. He joined the U.S. Army on active duty and was sent overseas in 2003.
