Fall 2024 Graduates Land Prestigious First Jobs

Harmanprit Singh of Howard Beach, N.Y., who earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in finance, is joining the OCC’s New York City office. Kayla Wooten of Georgetown, Texas, who earned her B.B.A. in marketing and Certificate in Banking, is joining the OCC’s San Antonio office.

The OCC charters, regulates and supervises all national banks and federal savings associations, as well as federal branches and agencies of foreign banks. The OCC is an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and is led by the Comptroller of the Currency.

Both Singh and Wooten credit their time in the NVCOB and the education they received through their respective departments with setting them up for these outstanding career opportunities.

Harmanprit Singh “As a finance student in the Norris-Vincent College of Business, I have experienced a distinctive and supportive academic journey. The program provides a solid foundation in financial theory, investment strategies and corporate finance, preparing students for careers in banking, investments and financial planning. With small class sizes and a dedicated faculty, students benefit from personalized attention and a collaborative learning environment. Additionally, opportunities to engage with organizations like Delta Sigma Pi and Beta Alpha Psi offer valuable networking and professional development.

This past summer, I worked as a financial intern with the OCC office in Lubbock, focusing on examining small-to-mid-size community banks. My role involved reviewing bank financial statements and other sensitive financial documents to audit them according to government financial criteria. Angelo State’s emphasis on practical experience through internships like this ensures that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the financial industry.

My advice to incoming freshmen is to gain as much internship experience as possible. Internships offer a first-hand understanding of your future industry and help you determine whether a particular career path is a good long-term fit.”

Kayla Wooten The Norris-Vincent College of Business, and especially the Excellence in Banking Program, were exceptional in preparing me to jump into the workforce after graduation. The faculty and staff showed a genuine interest in my growth as a young professional. The NVCOB invests heavily not only in the success of their undergraduate students, but in their alumni, and I am confident that I made the right choice in attending ASU.

Some advice I would give to students is to work hard and ask questions. College is the best time to be confused and search for clarity. Your professors and peers want to see you succeed; let the people around you help you thrive!
