Welcome From The President
What a great time to have been a Ram Fam this past year. We continue to do great things at Angelo State, and you will read about many of the amazing accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff as you peruse this edition of the Fiat Lux. One area that might not be as noticeable as you read is how much our Core Values have become part of the everyday fabric of who we are as a Ram Fam.
There has now been an entire generation of ASU alumni who have walked the mall and gone through the halls and classrooms of the university since we first published our Core Values back in February of 2021. Many might recall our coming together in the C.J. Davidson Center for the two-day Values Summit, or attending the town hall meetings that culminated with the student-athletes gathering in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena to painstakingly craft the final wording of the behaviors of the Core Values that are now the foundation of how we work with and in tandem with each other.
Many students who participated at the beginning of our values journey have crossed the stage, received their diplomas, and, for the most part, physically left the university campus. However, our Core Values remain a part of the values-based culture here at Angelo State.
Angelo State University Core Values
- Integrity | Integridad
- Diversity & Inclusion | Diversidad & Inclusión
- Significance | Impacto
- Community | Communidad
- Commitment | Compromiso
You can see our Core Values in various places on the campus. They are etched on the windows of the Porter Henderson Library, on banners that hang on posts, and even on the steps leading up to the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. It is my hope that our Core Values are not just on windows, banners, or steps, but they are an integral part of everything we do. Most importantly, not just while on the campus, but in our everyday lives wherever they take us.
I was challenged the other day by a person who is not part of the Ram Fam who said, “Most people do not even know the Core Values of ASU, let alone live by them.” I realize this question might possibly “open the flood gates,” but what are your thoughts about that statement? I want to hear from you – are the ASU Core Values a part of who you are, just words on a piece of paper, or somewhere in between? Please send me your thoughts – my email address is ronnie.hawkins@angelo.edu.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading through this digital version of the Angelo State Fiat Lux. Lead the Charge!
