Alumni Spotlight: Darcy Weishuhn
Class of 2013

Angelo State alumna Darcy Weishuhn credits her time at ASU, not only, for her good memories and friendships, but for introducing her to a career in banking and agriculture. Now, she strives to help ASU students find their way to success like she was able to.
Degree/Major: Agribusiness/Finance
Hometown: Sterling City
Current Job: Vice President of Commercial Lending at The Bank & Trust
Why did you choose to attend Angelo State?
I had plans to go elsewhere for college, but Gil Engdahl, the Agriculture Department chair at that time, was on the panel for a scholarship I interviewed for my senior year of high school. He strongly encouraged me to consider ASU’s Ag Department and was able to sweeten the deal with some departmental scholarship funds. I couldn’t pass up the scholarship opportunity, but I honestly planned to attend for one to two years before transferring out. However, once I got to Angelo State, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. It had everything I hoped for in a university. I was able to have hands-on experiences and travel the country with extracurriculars that might not have been possible with a different university.

What is one of your favorite memories of your time at Angelo State?
I loved my time at ASU, so it’s hard to narrow them down. Time on campus was best spent at the MIR Center (ASU Ranch) or traveling the country with the Ag Economics Quiz Bowl Team. Off-campus, though, I made friends who are still my core group to this day.

How has your education from Angelo State made an impact on your career?
My time at ASU trained me in the basic technical skills of my current career in banking. More importantly, though, it taught me the importance of community involvement and helping the next generation of leaders and community members in whatever capacity we’re able to.

What do you do in your current role as vice president of commercial lending, and what led you to this position?
What inspired you to keep going in your current career?
While at ASU, I took an internship as a credit analyst. That was the first time I was able to be part of the impact a healthy banking relationship can have for agriculture operators and business owners. I’m fortunate that in my current role I’m able to continue to grow those relationships, and hopefully keep helping business owners succeed.
What’s your favorite part about being involved in ASU organizations like the ASU Ram Club and Ag Alumni Committee?
ASU played a huge part in getting me to where I am today. The people I met there, and the skills I learned both in and outside of the classroom prepared me well for my career. If I can help other students have a positive experience like I did, then I’m happy to help grow that legacy. Being involved in these organizations, working with the students and faculty, helps keep me plugged in to all the great things happening across campus. I’m proud to be a member of the Ram Fam!
