Enjoy the convergence of art and science in a special exhibit showcasing the parallels between the scientific method and the creative process. This collaborative display, featuring ceramic works by Ariel Bowman and illustrations by the late Dr. Terry Maxwell, alongside specimens on loan from the Angelo State Natural History Collections, celebrates the shared drive of both artists and scientists – curiosity.

“Curiosity in Motion” encourages attendees to consider the integral role of interdisciplinary thinking by showcasing ceramic works created by featured artist Ariel Bowman, alongside selected specimens from the Angelo State Natural History Collections. The aesthetic beauty of Bowman’s sculpted prehistoric animals represents the wonder to be found in natural history. Combining her finished work with biological specimens used for reference demonstrates the importance of interdisciplinary thinking.

“I use clay to bring these extinct creatures back to life, sculpting folds of flesh and filling their bellies with air.”

- Ariel Bowman

“Curiosity in Motion” also features naturalist illustrations created by Dr. Terry Maxwell. Maxwell combined art and science as an Angelo State biology professor and illustrator for well over four decades before his sudden passing in 2017.

Designed for visitors of all ages, this exhibit invites everyone – from curious minds to seasoned experts – to explore the boundless possibilities that emerge when art and science work together.

This exhibition is graciously sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Mort Mertz and The Bank and Trust. Complimentary light refreshments will be served.
