ASU Music Audition Requirements
All students interested in pursuing a degree in music or a minor in music must audition and be accepted into the music program. To schedule an audition, complete and submit the Prospective Student Form and follow the instructions to request an audition date. A representative from the department will contact you with more details. Students currently attending ASU who wish to pursue a degree in music should begin the process by contacting the appropriate studio instructor. View the specific audition requirements for your instrument or voice and contact the appropriate studio professor for assistance.
Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before the scheduled audition, if not taking advantage of the Shadow Program. Practice rooms are available. In addition, expect to take a Music Theory placement/diagnostic exam.
Students should plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before their scheduled audition. Practice rooms are available for warming up. Before and after the audition, there will be an opportunity to meet with current students and faculty. After the audition, students will take the Music Theory diagnostic exam after which they may take a guided tour of the facility.
Auditions for Transfer Admission
Students who want to transfer to Angelo State must complete the regular admission process to the university, as well as audition for acceptance into the music program. The audition process is the same as those outlined for entering freshmen. Transfer students will also be required to take placement examinations in music theory and aural skills. Transcripts of previous work will be required before full acceptance and placement are determined.
