Alejandro Rodarte-Martinez, a biology major from San Angelo, has been selected to receive Angelo State University’s 2025 Presidential Award as the top graduate in his class, while five other ASU graduating seniors have been selected for 2025 Distinguished Student Awards from their respective academic colleges.

Angelo State University faculty members Dr. Kenneth Carrell and Dr. David Faught were presented with the Texas Tech University System’s 2025 Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards for ASU during a May 1 ceremony on campus.

YooJin Choi, a senior physics major at Angelo State University, was selected to represent ASU and present her research project at the recent 2025 Texas Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol event in Austin.

Hailey Lowden of San Angelo, a senior computer science major at Angelo State University, has been selected to participate in the National Security Agency’s (NSA) 2025 Future Computing Summer Internship Program at the NSA Laboratory for Physical Sciences in Catonsville, Maryland.

Dr. Mohammad Shafinul Haque of Angelo State University’s mechanical engineering faculty has been awarded a $627,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for a collaborative research project with the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) in Illinois dealing with high-entropy alloys (HEAs).

The Angelo State University Agriculture Department’s student Wool Judging Team brought home the gold medal from the 2025 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Collegiate Wool Judging Contest held Feb. 8 in San Antonio.
