If any of these ideas appeal to you, then you should consider a major in food animal science and marketing.
Our wide-ranging program covers everything from animal products and industry, food regulations and safety, and food microbiology - to product development, agricultural economics, marketing and more. You’ll also gain practical experience in our USDA-inspected lab and market facilities, and through internships and attending national conferences, as you prepare for your career in meat/food production and marketing.

What Can You Do With a Food Animal Science and Marketing Degree?
You can expect to find career opportunities in food product development, state and federal inspections, research, quality assurance, food safety, product marketing and similar fields.
Plus, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that career opportunities for agricultural and food scientists will continue to increase at a steady rate over the next 10 years, adding thousands of new jobs.
MIR Center
You’ll spend a lot of time at the Management, Instruction and Research Center, our 6,000-acre ASU Ranch. Its facilities include our USDA-inspected Food Safety and Product Development Lab and ASU Meat Market. You’ll learn to process a wide variety of meat products for sale to the public and have the opportunity for food protection certification from ServSafe and HAACP.
Strong Connections
You’ll be exposed to multiple internship and service-learning opportunities when you join our Meat and Food Science Association student group. These include networking with local professionals and traveling to national conferences. You can also join our Intercollegiate Meat Judging and Meat Science Quiz Bowl Teams and compete in national contests.
Living Learning Community
A section of our Plaza Verde residence hall is reserved for incoming freshman in our department who will live on campus. Living with fellow ag majors will help you adjust to college life, make new friends and get involved in campus activities.
