Have you ever taken something apart just to see how it works?
Would you like to help design the vehicles and aircraft of the future? Maybe you’re interested in designing new machines to aid in manufacturing. Maybe you’re into computers or you’re interested in our nation’s energy industry. If you’re ready to take your aptitude for building things to the next level, then you should consider a mechanical engineering major.
Our wide-ranging degree plan will prepare you to be a practice-ready mechanical engineer as soon as you graduate. You’ll also make professional contacts through special events and site visits while you gain practical experience in our high-tech labs, in field classes and through internships with local engineering firms.

What Can You Do With a Mechanical Engineering Degree?
Start your career as soon as you graduate. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that mechanical engineering fields are expected to add thousands of new jobs by 2031, with a median annual salary of $95,300.
Our graduates can expect to find career opportunities in mechanical design, the energy industry, computer-aided engineering, the automotive and aeronautical industries, manufacturing and other similar fields.
Top-Notch Facilities
Our state-of-the-art Hunter Strain Engineering Labs are the hub of engineering activity on campus. This $4.5 million, 8,000-square-foot facility is where you will gain valuable hands-on experience in the Engineering Mechanics Lab and Student Team Projects Lab, among others. All the labs are stocked with the latest in high-tech engineering equipment for hands-on learning and research.
Industry Connections
Our Industry Advisory Council is made up of leading professionals from local, military and state-wide engineering firms. They help keep our program on the cutting edge, visit with our students in classes and labs, and guide field trips to working engineering projects. They also provide paid internship opportunities. You’ll get a first-hand look at professional engineers at work while you make connections for your future career.
RAMgineers Lead the Way!
Connect with your fellow students in our RAMgineers student organization, which will also provide you with multiple networking and professional development opportunities. You’ll also have the chance to compete in state and national contests, like the NASA Student Launch Initiative. Ever build a full-size rocket? Here’s your chance! We also have a chapter of the Society for Women Engineers.
